Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Chair is a non-profit research initiative that was established on 12th November 2008 at University of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Culture & Tourism department Govt. of Sindh initiated a proposal to establish chairs in her name in various universities of Sindh such as University of Karachi, SMBB Chair for research initiatives on the vision and mission of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The Chair was established to conduct research, develop a rich Resource Center cum Library, to promote her democratic pursuits and link them with the national and global research initiatives. It will ultimately support gender, especially women & youth. SMBBC would place a unique example of research on democratic themes that would ultimately help the chair to create and strengthen regional & global synergy with the think tanks working on promotion of peace, democracy and coexistence of diversity all over the world.
SMBB Chair is documenting all the important events in the life of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and encourages scholars, intellectuals and researchers to undertake research on different aspects of her life. She was a leader of international repute and wanted to contribute time, energies and ideas for peace and prosperity here and elsewhere in the world.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the first woman among Muslim Nations to have been elected Prime Minister to lead a Muslim state twice from 1988–1990 and 1993–1996 respectively. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision and mission was to promote Peace, Good Governance, Democracy and Socio-Economic Development. She stood for Social and Economic transformation for devastated and underprivileged community through providing plenty of opportunities to decrease unemployment to make the country strengthened economically. She wanted to see Pakistan as one of the developed and prosperous nations in the world.
The Director developed a comprehensive five-year long term plan (2015-2020) based on the aims and objectives of SMBB Chair.
The Chair intends to build a beautiful building of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Chair and Conventional Center within university premises for accommodating 2000 persons at a time.
In order to equip the people with knowledge, the SMBB Chair aims to organize Seminars, National and International Conferences and TV talk shows to pay tribute to the living memory of the great leader.
The biographers of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto will be called from all over the world to participate in the deliberations of the conference and explain as to what inspired them to write a biography on her life and philosophy. SMBB Chair has planned to give civic and political education to the youth and women in order to enhance their skills and activate them to play their vibrant political role in the society.
The Chair is going to promote civil society education and produce quality political literature through publication of books, magazines and research papers. In order to raise awareness of citizens about their political rights, SMBB Chair intends to educate them through advocacy, action research, media and civic mechanism for accessing information.
The Chair will publish one major work and four research papers every year. There is a vast field before the researchers to produce reports on different aspects of BB’s life so that the people may know more details about her accomplishments in life.
SMBB Chair intends to compile and publish anthologies of speeches, statements, articles and interviews of Benazir Bhutto Sahiba. The anthologies will provide a useful material for researchers and general readers. The Chair will publish diaries, calendars, and other promotional material customized to SMBB Chair every year.
The vision and mission of SMBB Chair is to finalize core programs, themes and objectives of the chair and to build a strong institution representing Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s socio-political and economic vision and mission.

The Chair has planned to establish a rich Resource Center cum Library to encourage and support researchers working on her democratic pursuits and there is a need to link them with the national and global research initiatives. The chair has collected a number of books, speeches, interviews, articles, letters, conferences, lectures, pictures and audio/video recordings of Benazir Bhutto Sahiba. The chair intends to compile the collected material into book and digital forms so that young researchers and intellectuals are facilitated to conduct fresh research into the life, achievements and vision of world leader.
The Chair will organize exchange tours of youth and men of letters to and fro South Asian region in order to bridge understanding gap between South Asian countries and to make plans for mutual cooperation, bilateral relations, development and peace. Linkages will be developed with national, regional and global research think tanks and produce a joint research once a year so as to promote regional peace, socio-economic, educational and scientific development.
To keep a liaison with the organization in and outside Pakistan, with their specific focus on women empowerment, providing legal and constitutional protection to the women so as to ensure their access to social and economic justice.
The academic and professional training department of SMBB Chair will organize academic and professional trainings on a variety of themes so that the capacity of Political activists, Thinkers, Researchers and Students is built. The Chair will commence monthly series of lectures to be delivered on social, political, economic and global issues. The aim of these lectures is to raise the awareness of public about Democracy, Good Governance, Justice, Regional and Global Peace.
SMBB Chair has planned to organize internships and trainings on core themes (political training, research methodology, multimedia, awareness and etc.) so that the people may be trained in socio-political and economic domains.
